add a little spice

In the recent years, I have gained a strange craving for anything and everything spicy. I love foods with red peppers, hot sauce, or a sprinkle of cayenne pepper. It's rather strange and I don't really know why I've become addicted to such hot spices. Although I love it and sprinkle this stuff on everything, it's caused a slight disruption in my body.

In addition to my love for spicy foods, I also seem to be attracted to acidic (FRUIT!) foods. After I eat anything with heavy spices or something acidic , I get really bad heart burn and sometimes stomach cramps.
I found this little chart showing that your 75-80% of your diet should consist of these foods:

This chart represents the other 20% of your diet, of course coffee is there! I would have to admit that my diet is fairly acidic, so I'm going to have to start making changes. [My beloved pistachios are there too!]

One little change I've noticed to help immensely, is to cold brew my coffee.
I have heard(not positive it's true) that if you do not use hot water to brew your coffee, the acid is not released and the bitterness is not as aparent. The cold brewed coffee is definitely not as hard on my body so I will continue to do this until I'm proven otherwise.

To cold brew my coffee, I use my french press. At night, I make it using cold water and stick it in the fridge to steep overnight. In the morning, I pour it in my coffee cup and zap it until it's hot. With me heating it in the microwave, I may still be releasing some acidity but I still do not think it's as much. Over the summer, I plan to just drink iced coffee to fix this problem. :)

Now I need to go study the alkaline foods...oi!

Do you have sensitivities to acidic foods? Which ones seem to be the worst?

Don't forget about my cookie question:)

gloomy days

I think the only word that is applicable to this Monday-day is gloomy. I wake up to the sound of rain and piddle through my morning wishing it were already night-time. To brighten things up, I put on my bright and cheerful spring-like yellow cardigan. I fixed my coffee and was out the door for an immediate face off to the Monday morning gloomson traffic! Argh.

:)

Anywho, I arrive to work and begin my day with a Chobani greek yogurt (blueberry) with chia seeds sprinkled in. I've been neglecting my hydration so I thought it'd be a good idea to add in some powerhouse hydraters. I'll devote an entire post to the beloved chia seed sometime soon, I promise!

Well, I'm crunched for time but I'll end on this note. (no pun intended) :) I am lucky to have such an amazing fiance. Not only did he write me this sweet note but he also surprised me with coffee while I was at work. Coffee never fails to perk me up especially when it's brought to me by someone else! He knows just the way to my heart:)

So, what do you do to perk up your gloomy days?

I gotta lot of coconut

Today I decided to take pictures of my breakfast. Not too sure why, maybe because it's so delicious/scrumptious and full of goodness.

This lovely bundle of tastiness contains

And of course I had to include my coffee..
regular coffee with pumpkin in it.

mmmmmm mm.

Psalm 97:11-12
"Light is shed upon the righteous and joy on the upright in heart. Rejoice in the LORD, you who are righteous, and praise his holy name."

Today I am joyful
Happy Friday! :)

Pumpkin Please!

Without even knowing what I was getting myself into, I one day thought that it would be a great idea to try the Pumpkin Spice Latte's. I love pumpkin and I love latte's. I've now bought way too many pumpkin spice latte's and giving them reasons each time why I need them. Yea, I don't need them but I get them anyway. So since this addiction has become quite unnecessary and inconvenient, I decided to make one MYSELF!

So here it goes, folks:

Pumpkin Butter
Coffee
Dairy(of your choice)
Maybe some sugar, up to you.

Mix the pumpkin butter and dairy together and make it lovely and spicy!
Then pour your coffee on top and WALAH!
It's quite magical actually.

To make the latte I would just heat the milk and butta up and whisk it around for a few.

You won't regret this.

Pure happiness in a cup :)
