Sweet Rolls

Yesterday morning I woke up at six a.m. Did I mention it was Saturday? So I wake up and I'm just hoping that I can go back to sleep but it isn't possible. I go and brew my favorite coffee and begin taking advantage of the newly connected internet. We went without it in our aparatment for almost four months, it's so weird being able to sit in my apartment and get on the internet!

After sipping a few sips of coffee I decide it's time to bake something. Since I tried the yeast rolls the other day and had major success, I wanted to try cinnamon yeast rolls.

I didn't take any pictures before this process, please forgive me. Once I get in baking mode I get a little excited and just go. But you do get to see the best part!
Having dough and getting to knead it is by far my favorite thing. The cinnamon roll dough is a lot different from the yeast rolls, it's softer and smoother.
Once your bread dough has doubled in size from rising, you punch it and begin kneading it.

Then you get your handy dandy rolling pin. This never fails.

Roughly 9x13

I added some maple syrup to the dough to add a sweet rustic taste.

Spread your sugar mixter, I chose dark brown sugar, cinnamon, and maple syrup.

Roll er' up. Start getting excited at this point, it's a must.

Please don't forget to butter the pan.

Add some sweetness to it too!

Can we all just take a moment and look at this?

Line them up neatly in the pan.

Make sure they look ready for baking. Once you line them up in the pan you have to let them rise again, it's a waiting process.

Once they're done, drizzle with some of your favorite glaze and give them to someone to enjoy.

This recipe was good but I would definitely make some changes afterwards. In the glaze I had coffee and maple syrup and I would probably not do the coffee next time just for those folks that don't like the taste of it. I wouldn't bake them for the time stated of 30 minutes. I like when bread is a lot softer and gooey-er. The maple syrup was good though!

Sweet Rolls with Maple Syrup:

adapted from Paula Dean

Dough:
1/4-ounce package yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup scalded milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup Butter-I use Earth Balance but use what you like
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
3 1/2 cups of All Purpose Flour
Filling:
1/2 cup Dark Brown Sugar
2 tbsp Melted Butter
1 tbsp Cinnamon
2 tbsp Maple Syrup

In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside. In a large bowl mix milk, sugar, melted butter, salt and egg. Add 2 cups of flour and mix until smooth. Add yeast mixture. Mix in remaining flour until dough is easy to handle. Knead dough on lightly floured surface for 5 minutes. Place in well-greased bowl, cover and let rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour)
When doubled in size, punch down dough. Roll out on a floured surface. Spread melted butter and maple syrup all over dough. Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over buttered dough. Now roll up the dough gently and begin slicing!

Coat the bottom of baking pan with butter and sprinkle with sugar. Place cinnamon roll slices close together in the pan and let rise until dough is doubled, about 45 minutes. When close to the 45 minutes go ahead and preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Bake for about 30 minutes or until nicely browned.
When cooled you can glaze them!

Enjoy and I'll be adjusting this recipe and posting again!
